This book is all about being a CEO and an effective leader. It talks about execution from the vantage point of running the entire organization. There were some great gems in this book; effective coaching techniques, how to take charge and lead the execution of processes and policy. It’s focus is on Strategy, people and operations and it covers some wonderful topics. There are two huge drawbacks to this book; first it’s dated: it was written in the early 2000’s, although it doesn’t read that way. The other issue was it uses GE, Honeywell and other huge multi billion dollar corporations as it’s base. So a lot of what they discuss is not applicable to small business or even medium sized companies. It’s often tough to relate to and by the end I was just trying to finish pages so I could move to another book. If you run an international corporation and need to know how to save 5 million in a budget and get your line managers in Asia to be better leaders, this is your book. If your like everyone else, you can pass on this one. I give this a 6.4 and NOT a recommended read. #happyreading
